Splitt vs Splid

Splid is the app you hand to people who will never open it again. Splitt is the app for the person who is going to be responsible for the numbers.

We make Splitt. Splid facts below come from its store listings and public reviews.

Which should you choose?

Choose Splid if the group includes Android users or people who will refuse to create an account, or if you're splitting across many currencies — it handles 150+ automatically and charges nothing. Choose Splitt if the trip will generate a lot of expenses you later need to find, you want the receipt read for you, and you'd rather the app said who pays next.

The no-account thing is a real advantage

It is worth being clear that Splid solved a problem we haven't. Getting six people to install an app is hard; getting six people to install an app and register is much harder, and the trip organiser ends up entering everyone's expenses themselves. Splid removes that entirely: a link, and you're in. Splitt requires an account, and that is a genuine cost we pay for cross-device sync and a durable history.

Where Splid gets painful

The complaint that recurs in Splid's reviews is not about splitting — it's about finding. There's no sorting and no filtering of the expense list, so on a two-week trip with two hundred entries, locating a specific one means scrolling. Reviewers describe giving up and rebuilding the trip in Excel. There's also no web app and no iPad listing, so there's no larger screen to do that work on.

Splid also has no receipt scanning, which for a restaurant-heavy trip is a lot of manual typing.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use Splid without an account?

Yes — that is its defining feature. You create a group, share a link, and everyone joins with no email, phone number or password. Splitt requires an account.

Does Splid have ads?

No. Splid runs no ads on the free tier, and its paid unlocks appear to be one-time in-app purchases rather than a subscription. Splitt also runs no ads, but Pro is a subscription.

Which is better for a long trip with hundreds of expenses?

Splitt, on one specific axis: Splid has no way to sort or filter the expense list, which reviewers cite as the reason they end up in a spreadsheet. Splid is better on currencies, with 150+ converted automatically.

Which supports more currencies?

Splid, with 150+ converted automatically against Splitt's 44. Both convert automatically, which already puts them ahead of Splitwise's free tier.
