Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 30, 2026
This policy explains what Splitt (“we”) collects when you use the Splitt apps for iPhone, Apple Watch and Android and the websites splitt.cash and app.splitt.cash, why we collect it, who else processes it, and how to delete it.
1. What we collect
Your account
- Your Splitt tag and name.
- Your avatar: an icon and a color, or a photo you upload.
- A secret key that lets you restore your account on a new phone. The app keeps it on your device.
- If you sign in with Apple, the identifier Apple gives us for your Apple account. Accounts created before Sign in with Apple may also have an email address.
What you add
- Expenses and payments: titles, amounts, currencies, dates, notes, categories, who paid and who took part.
- Groups: names, descriptions, icons, colors and members.
- Your friends and friend requests.
Your phone number (optional)
If you link a phone number, we check that it is yours with a code sent by SMS through Firebase Authentication, a Google service. Google receives your number to send the message. Right after the check we delete the Firebase account this creates; Splitt keeps the number. People who have your number can then find you on Splitt, and expenses they already added for that number move to your account.
Your contacts (optional)
Only if you give the app access to your contacts:
- To show which of your contacts use Splitt, the app sends their phone numbers to our server, which compares them with the numbers linked to Splitt accounts. We don't keep these numbers.
- When you add a contact who isn't on Splitt yet, so you can split with them, we store their name and phone number. If they join with that number, those expenses become part of their account.
Receipts
When you scan a receipt, the photo is read on your phone and is not uploaded. On Android, and on iPhone when the phone can't make sense of a receipt, the text read from it is sent to our server and to OpenAI, which finds the items and prices. Under its API terms, OpenAI doesn't use this text to train its models.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Apple (on iPhone) or Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging (on Android) gives the app a push token. We store it to send you notifications about expenses, payments, friends and groups. The text of each notification passes through Apple or Google on its way to your phone.
Purchases on iPhone
The iPhone app uses Adapty to check App Store purchases, such as a Splitt Pro subscription bought earlier. Adapty receives your Splitt account ID and your App Store purchase history. Apple handles payments; we never see your card details.
Diagnostics
- When the app or our server hits an error, Sentry receives a report: the device model, operating system and app version, and what the app was doing. Sentry also receives timing samples that show us which parts of the app are slow.
- Our server logs the requests it receives, including IP addresses, to keep the service secure and fix problems. We keep these logs only as long as we need them for that.
- If you report a problem from the app, you can attach the app's logs to the report.
How you use the apps
The Splitt apps from the App Store and Google Play send usage events to Google Analytics for Firebase. For example, when you sign in, add an expense or a payment, scan a receipt, create or join a group, or open a screen. With them go your Splitt account ID, whether you use Splitt as a guest, and how many friends and groups you have. Firebase adds an ID for this install of the app, the device model, the operating system, the app version and an approximate location based on your IP address.
Events don't include names, phone numbers, email addresses, amounts or anything you type. The apps don't collect your advertising ID. We use this only to see how people use Splitt and what to improve.
Our websites
- splitt.cash counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies. Neither site has advertising trackers.
- app.splitt.cash, Splitt in the browser, counts visits the same way and sends Google Analytics for Firebase the same usage events as the apps. In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it asks first and sends nothing until you accept. After that, Google Analytics sets its cookies (their names start with _ga). You can change your choice at any time in Settings → Analytics cookies. To know whether to ask, the site keeps your country, worked out from your IP address, in a cookie for the visit.
- So that you don't have to sign in on every visit, app.splitt.cash uses a cookie from api.splitt.cash. It isn't used for anything else.
- If you choose a language on splitt.cash, a cookie remembers your choice.
- If you send the account deletion form, we receive what you enter in it by email.
2. What we don't do
We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites. The apps don't ask for your location.
3. Why we use it
- To run Splitt: your account, splitting and balances, and syncing between your devices and the people you split with. We need this to provide the service you signed up for.
- Your phone number, your contacts and notifications are used only with your permission. You can withdraw it at any time: unlink the number in the app, or turn off contacts access and notifications in your phone's settings.
- To keep Splitt secure, prevent abuse and fix errors. This is our legitimate interest in a service that works.
- To see how people use the apps and what to improve. This is our legitimate interest in making Splitt better.
- To meet legal obligations.
4. Who can see your data
- The people you split with see your name, tag and avatar, and the expenses, payments and groups you share with them.
- Anyone on Splitt can find you by your tag. If you linked a phone number, people who have it can find you by it too.
- Authorities, when the law requires us to disclose data.
These companies process data for us, each only for its own part of the service:
- Amazon Web Services: our servers, stored files such as profile photos, and email.
- MongoDB Atlas: our database.
- Google Firebase: phone number checks, notifications on Android and usage analytics in the apps and on app.splitt.cash.
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, notifications on iPhone and App Store purchases.
- OpenAI: reading the text of receipts.
- Sentry: error reports.
- Adapty: App Store purchase checks on iPhone.
- Vercel: hosting splitt.cash and app.splitt.cash.
Some of these companies process data in the United States, so your data may be handled outside your country.
5. How long we keep it, and how to delete it
We keep your data while your account exists. To delete your account, open Settings → Account → Delete account in the app. If you no longer have the app, use the account deletion form or email support@splitt.cash.
Deleting your account removes your profile: your name, tag, phone number, sign-in and push tokens. You disappear from your friends' lists. Expenses, payments and groups you shared stay with the other people in them, because they are part of their records too.
6. Security
The apps talk to our server over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and only the Splitt team can access the server and the database. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts your data at risk, we will tell you as the law requires.
7. Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to limit or stop how we use it. Email support@splitt.cash. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
8. Children
Splitt is not meant for anyone under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If we learn that we have, we delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we publish the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
